Current electrode manipulators on the market do not provide the adaptability, accuracy, and affordability required by our client for the Neuropixels probe. We are setting out to create an extracellular probe manipulator that does all three.
Design Specifications
Our major design criteria:
One main constraint is fitting the new manipulator into the current microscope recording setup. The current setup includes a fixed-stage microscope and 2 intracellular recording electrode manipulators inside of a Faraday cage. Another main constraint is that the extracellular electrode will have a cord connecting the control chip to a computer for data transfer. We will ensure that our design securely attaches the electrode to manipulator arm without being disturbed by the cord. The Design Specification, to the right, are color coded according to completion. We were able to meet those in green, the ones colored orange were accommodated for in the design but were not tested, and those in red were not met.
